Full artist statement:
As a practitioner of Zen Buddhism, meditation principles influence my process, and often, finished pieces induce a meditative experience, most notably in my video work. There are no one-liners, no simple statements, but rather, every piece—in any medium—invites the viewer to spend time in its world, investigate its complexities, and discover its secrets. Although aesthetically varied, consistent themes run throughout the work. This includes shifting micro- and macroscopic perspectives; universal human experiences from banal to profound; the balance of action, intuition, and thought; the slowing or quickening of your pulse while at rest; and the perceived and unperceived connectedness of humans to humans to dust mites to light bulbs to the ocean to dogs to monads to triads to ripe berries to whistling and handclaps to dirt back to humans because no matter what, all we ever truly possess is our perceptions.
